Every block of the wheel is a population traced across 22 autosomes and the X chromosome, sized to its share of your DNA. About 95% traces to the British Isles. The rest is a shorter, sharper story.
01 — Detailed Composition
23andMe resolves ancestry as a nested tree: broad continent, then region, then a single reference population.
02 — The Two Sides
You inherit one copy of each chromosome from each parent. Split by copy, the two halves diverge — all of your Sub-Saharan African ancestry rides on a single parental line.
03 — Chromosome Painting
Each chromosome is drawn twice — one strand per parent. Nearly the whole genome reads British & Irish; the exceptions are worth finding.
